Wendy Bartaire of France and Glen Bailey of England captured the women’s and men’s masters titles as the 2016 QubicaAMF Bowling Promotion Cup Tour came to an end at Silverbowl Beaucouze in Angers, France. The seventh edition of the made-for-TV Tour was contested from Nov. 6-10 in three different cities in France.
The QBPC Tour kicked off at six-lane Bowling Skittle in Châteaubriant with the Team Challenge. Next was the Singles competition at Bowling Le Belem, a 12-laner in Dinan/Taden before the Tour capped off at 24-lane Silverbowl Beaucouze in Angers with Doubles and Masters. Each stage of the QubicaAMF BPC Tour was aired on French television networks and on the internet free of charge.
Bartaire (pictured), a member of the French women’s national squad, averaged 222.89 for 18 games in all-events (six qualifying games each in singles, doubles and masters) to earn the No. 2 seed in the women’s masters stepladder finals. Bartaire, who also won the titles in singles and doubles, defeated her doubles partner and No. 1 seed, Samantha Hannan of England, in the title match, 237-217, to earn her third title. In the semi-final match, Bartaire tied Nicole Sanders, Netherlands, 237-237, and booked her spot in the finals with a strike in a one-ball roll-off, 10-7.
The men’s masters final between top-seeded Bailey (239.83 average) and second-seeded Gaétan Mouveroux of France was a strike-fest in which Bailey prevailed, 280-268, to take revenge after losing against Mouveroux the singles finale. The four-day competition kicked off with the Team Challenge at Bowling Skittle in Châteaubriant. The event was played in Baker format where each player plays two frames per game. The lead off player bowls the first and sixth frame, the second player the second and seventh frame and so on.
In the best-of-three games women’s match, Team Sirius (pictured; Mariana Meteksinova, Bulgaria; Alexandra Lopez D’Andrade, France; Sarah Essouffi, France; Nathalie Dhanis, Belgium; and Isabelle Chevet, France) rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Team Vega (Amandine Richard, France; Nicole Sanders, Netherlands; Samantha Hannan, England; Wendy Bartaire, France; and Marine Lesourd, France), two-games-to-one.
In the best-of-five games men’s match, Team Orion (pictured; Jonathan Lefevre, France; Gaetan Mouveroux, France; Geert-Jan van Baest, Netherlands; July Petrov, Bulgaria; and Alex Gaal, France) swept Team Mercury (Bruno Bidone, France; Glen Vansteenbrugge, Belgium; Ryan Vanderschueren, Belgium; Glen Bailey, England; and Renaud Honhon, Belgium), 3-0.
In a friendly match between French national team members Wendy Bartaire, Sarah Essouffi and Alexandra Lopes D’Andrade (pictured) and Nicole Sanders, Samantha Hannan and Mariana Meteksinova, representing the international players, the players from the host country prevailed, 2-0.
Action then shifted to the singles at Bowling Le Belem in Dinan. After six individual games of qualifying, which also was the first block of qualifying for the Masters, top-seeded Mouveroux sealed the victory with a 245-223 win against No. 2 Bailey in the men’s title match. On the women’s side, Bartaire, seeded first, flew past No. 2 Sanders, 247-195, to earn the title.
The Doubles qualifying at Silverbowl in Angers determined the seeding for the finals. The individual qualifying scores also counted towards the masters qualifying. Bailey and Glenn Vansteenbrugge of Belgium the men’s qualifying by a mile with 1444 and 1411 for a combined 237.92 average. They held off Jonathan Lefevre of France and partner July Petrov of Bulgaria in the championship match, 221-200, to wrap up the title. Hannan (1366) and Bartaire (1351) led the women’s qualifying to advance to the title match in which the defeated Bartaire’s team mates, Essouffi and Lopes D’Andrade, 225-202.
The third and last six-game qualifying round at Silverbowl Beaucouze in Angers determined the top 5 men and the top 5 women, who advanced to the Masters finals.
The 2016 QubicaAMF Bowling Promotion Cup Tour offered total prize money of 10.000 Euro, divided equally between men and women.
